Journal 1
On his technology education blog which can be found here, David White explains there is a spectrum of Internet users. At one end of the spectrum there are residents and at the other end there are visitors. Residents have a strong online presence even when they are not signed on. They engage in social networking and are very visible.  Unlike residents, visitors don't see a need for social networking. Often times they are worried about the lack of privacy connected with social networking. Residents aren't opposed to technology though. In fact, they will use it if they see it can benefit them in some way.
On this spectrum, I am a visitor, on her way to becoming a resident.  I have accounts with Diigo, twitter, facebook, youtube, grouply, blogger and wikispaces. I find all these sites very useful, and plan on using them even more when I am a full-time teacher. I don't call myself a resident yet, because my activiites on these sites has been fairly limited. However, when I am a teacher, I plan to have a stronger online presence in order to increase communication between me and my students and my students' parents, and to obtain useful teaching resources.
